KEARNEY, NE — Nobody is injured after a fire at a trailer park sent black smoke high into the sky in east Kearney.

The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department responded to reports of smoke at East Lawn trailer park shortly after 9:00 Tuesday night. Chief Jeremy Feusner says the west side of a mobile home was heavily involved in flame when firefighters arrived.

The residents were able to escape the fire with no injuries. Feusner says firefighters first focused on putting out the deck before making entry to the home. They searched the home twice to confirm all people and pets were out.

The fire created towering smoke that could be seen from as far east as the airport and as far west as 2nd Ave.

The Nebraska Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating to determine a cause. The amount of damage to the home is unclear. At least five fire trucks were on scene and dozens of firefighters responded.
