Results of July 23rd, 2022 DUI Enforcement Operation — Cape Coral Police Department

(July 25, 2022) - The Cape Coral Police Department conducted a grant-funded multi-jurisdictional DUI enforcement operation on July 23rd, 2022, specifically targeting impaired driving. Funding was provided by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). This operation was conducted citywide and resulted in seventy six citations (twenty two of those for violating a traffic control or signal device) as well as three traffic arrests. Four drivers were stopped for driving without a seatbelt.

The detailed results are as follows:

OPERATION TIME: 7:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m.

VIOLATION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL/SIGNAL DEVICE: 22

ARRESTED: Elite Barfield W/F, 08-23-1992, 1106 SE 21st Street, Cape Coral.

CHARGES: DUI-Influence of Alcohol or Drugs.

Traffic stop for speed (70 in a 50) led to the discovery that Barfield was driving while impaired, BAC .118/.120.

ARRESTED: Bryan Hines W/M, 04-02-1989, 8573 Via Garibaldi Circle, Estero.

CHARGES: DUI- Influence of Alcohol or Drugs (4th) , Refusal After Suspension, Habitual Traffic Offender DWLS.

Hines stopped in the crosswalk of Cape Coral Parkway and Del Prado Blvd South, then continued to be stopped at a green light for about 60 seconds.  A traffic stop was conducted to check on the driver’s wellbeing, which led to the discovery that Hines was driving while impaired, he also refused breath after already having his license suspended, and was DWLS habitually.

ARRESTED: Handry Saavedra-Mendez, W/M 10-02-1982, 2914 Santa Barbara Blvd South, Cape Coral.

CHARGES: DUI-Influence of Alcohol or Drugs.

Saavedra-Mendez was stopped at a red light and was slow to react when the light cycled to green. A traffic stop was conducted to check on the driver’s wellbeing, which led to the discovery that the driver was driving while impaired, breath refused.

ARRESTED: Stacey Maldonado, W/F 11-18-2004 4411 Cortina Circle, Fort Myers.

CHARGES: DUI-Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, DWLS.

Traffic stop for speed (53 in a 35) led to the discovery that Maldonado was impaired and her license was suspended with knowledge, ID card presented at time of stop.
